The Pennsylvania Lottery website has information on winning numbers, jackpots, and procedures for claiming your prize. Since 1972, the Lottery has provided over $15.5 billion for programs helping older Pennsylvanians, including the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, prescription drug assistance, transit, and senior citizen centers across the state.
I’m tired of getting telephone calls from solicitors. How do I get on that “Do Not Call” list?
The state Attorney General has set up a website here for signing up for the “Do Not Call” registry. You can also call the “Do Not Call” hotline at 1-888-777-3406.

It’s tax time again. Where can I file my state income taxes online?
The state Department of Revenue has set up a website here to complete your state income tax return online. You can do your state taxes over the telephone by calling 1-888-4-PAFILE (472-3453). Also, you can download your state tax forms here.

The state Department of Public Welfare’s Child Support Program provides assistance here.
Where do I go to get a birth or death certificate?
The state Department of Health’s Division of Vital Records can help you obtain a birth or death certificate here.
Help! I don’t have health insurance. What are my options?
Medical Assistance (Medicaid) is an option for low-income and disabled adults. General eligibility requirements can be viewed here. You can apply for Medicaid, as well as other social service programs, at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Access to Social Services (COMPASS) website here.
AdultBasic is an option for adults who do not have health coverage, are low-income, but don’t qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. Check the eligibility requirements here. You can apply for adultBasic through the COMPASS website.
Uninsured women between the ages of 40 and 65 who meet certain income requirements may qualify for free breast and cervical cancer screenings through the state Department of Health’s HealthyWoman Program. For more information about this program, click here or call 1-800-842-2020.
Help! My kid doesn’t have health insurance. What can I do?
Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (also known as CHIP) provides health coverage for children of working families who cannot otherwise afford it. Check the eligibility requirements here. You can call 1-800-986-KIDS or apply online at the COMPASS website.
I’m about to have my heat turned off or I’m having trouble with my heating bills. Where can I find assistance?
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides cash assistance and one-time crisis grants for families and individuals who are having trouble with their heating bills or who are in danger of having their heat shut off. More information on LIHEAP, including eligibility requirements and deadlines, is available here. You can apply for LIHEAP through the COMPASS website or by calling the County Assistance Office at 215-560-1583 (cash assistance) or 215-686-2590 (crisis grant).
The Philadelphia Gas Works provides a Customer Responsibility Program (CRP), which can provide discounted bills for eligible customers. Learn more about that program here. The customer service line for LIHEAP and CRP questions is 215-684-6100. PGW also has Neighborhood Energy Centers located throughout the city to handle your concerns.
Also, the Energy Coordinating Agency can help you weatherproof your home, provide budget counseling, or refer you to a bill payment assistance program.
Where can I find information about financial aid for college?
EducationPlanner.org is a great place to get started planning for college. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) website provides information about state grants, loans, loan-forgiveness programs, and other programs to assist your with paying for college.

I’m a senior citizen. Where can I find assistance paying for my prescription drugs or more information about Medicare Part D?
The PACE and PACENET programs now work in conjunction with the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit. For more information, click here or call 1-800-225-7223.
If you do not qualify for PACE or PACENET, you can still get information about Medicare Part D through the state APPRISE hotline at 1-800-783-7067. The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging also can provide assistance at 1-215-765-9000.
